2007 RMS Teacher of the Year
Hello. My name is Candace Penrod. I am originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have a major in Elementary Education and several science endorsements. I currently teach 8th grade Science at Hillside Middle School in Salt Lake City, Utah. I "converted" from elementary education to secondary education when I saw a great need for science educators. I have spent many summers building my science knowledge and rock collections. I have always enjoyed the Geosciences as a hobby, and now use my passion to enrich my classroom. I truly enjoy sharing with my students my adventures and knowledge of rocks, minerals and our Earth.
It is with great honor that I accept the 2007 Teacher of the Year Award from the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. I have a passion for teaching in the Geosciences. My first love lies in understanding our earth and our stewardship over it. My second love is transforming my passion into meaningful content for young adolescence. Our Earth is an amazing planet with many wonderful resources. Natural resources are gifts from our Earth that must be taught and understood. I appreciate this great opportunity to represent educators in the Rocky Mountain Section in our endeavors to lead a better generation into tomorrow.
